Woah, screw ePSXe! Ive found the best PSX emulator available: an actual PSX.

Seriously, despite my most dilligent efforts, i cant run any of Squaresoft's RPG's without some form of lag, graphical inconsistancies/glitches or sound errors. So whats the point? That said, if you can prove me wrong on this with a copy of your setup, please do. ^_^

Currently playing FFIX on the PSX.

FFXI on the PC. Thanks to my households range of sugar-based confection, cereals and snacks i managed to endure 3 hours of level grinding. I only have 3 days left on my subscription, and im going to mkae the most of it.

IRT Cata: Well, if you want to play Xenogears, then you might want to use a real PS2/PSX for stability. This particular game has a lot of issues and it gets tricky. Other games run like silk and look better in ePSXe, though.

I've been able to make FFVII look great but run like shit, or look worse than PSX, and run ok.

IRT Wiseman - Xenogears isnt as bad since the graphics are relatively consistent. Its Chrono Cross and FFVII-IX that pose the largest problems since they integrate FMV in real-time, and feature detailed 3D models as opposed to sprites.

IRT Xel - Exactly the same for me. Even on the lowest settings i still get lag, typically when i start a random battle. Its probably because there are two different models for Cloud (one for terrain and the other for battles), meaning it has to keep switching between the two. FFVIII and IX use the same character models for both, which is why both those games work much more smoothly in emulation.

Chrono Cross? I was playing that without a problem, it's most surely a metter of configuration, as it was one of the better looking games I played; perhaps there are tips for it in NGEmu or somewhere. IM me when you're on and I'll try to help you.

I've go the following games to look better than the original and play at full speed on my Athlon XP 1800+ (even 3x fast forwards if I wanted to):

- Grandia
- Chrono Cross
- Final Fantasy 8
- Suikoden 2
- Legend of Legaia (At least the beginning. Didn't have time to play.)

Xenogears would look arguably better most of the time, but it's a bitch to get working correctly, and you still have to tweak some cut-scenes, one whole stage which you may want to play in software mode, a cut-scene where you have to disable sound, and another one which is very unstable.

Darwinia, a fantasic little philosophical RTS. It's set in a computer universe, which is under attack by viruses. Reading the manual shows off the parallels when comparing Darwinia to our world, and explains the concept of God in a pretty blunt manner.
